Puerto Madero, Buenos Aires Luxury

Puerto Madero is the youngest district of Buenos Aires. Developed on disused port warehouses, was built during the 90s under the leadership of then President Carlos Saul Menem. It soon adopted a luxurious and exclusive profile, focusing on the upper classes of the city, especially to foreign tourists.

The Frigate Sarmiento Pte rests against the Dock 3 in Puerto Madero. Baptized in 1897, ran as a training ship until 1939, conducting educational tours around the world. In 1961 it was converted into Navy Ship Museum and Argentina and a year later was declared a National Historic Landmark. Currently you can go inside, appreciating their original furniture and seeing photographic evidence of its rich history.

Women’s Bridge is a modern structure for the crosswalk. Installed in the Dock 3, at the height of the Avenida de Mayo is the first work of architect Santiago Calatrava to be built in Latin America. With its system of rotation (one of the largest in the world, with twenty and computerized electric motors on the main axis) allows boat traffic in front of the dikes. The venture cost six million dollars.

Another interesting site to visit is the Pavilion of Arts from the Universidad Católica Argentina (UCA), an institution that has four docks in the area. The Arts Pavilion, located in the building Santa Maria de los Buenos Aires (Paseo Juan M. Gorriti 1300), has 400 square meters to accommodate different samples of the plastic Argentina.

Puerto Madero has a number of more expensive hotels and restaurants in town. Out of reach for most of the Buenos Aires, travelers who arrive in Argentina with euros or dollars in their pockets can access high class services at an affordable cost, thanks to the advantageous exchange.

Being in coastal zone, bordering the Rio de la Plata, neighborhood safety rests with the Coast Guard Argentina. His constant presence and surveillance systems, allow tourists to walk the streets with ease, even late at night.

A few blocks from downtown and its flagship sites (Plaza de Mayo, Calle Florida), Puerto Madero is an inevitable choice for every visitor to the city.
