El Bolson, attractiveness of the Andean Region in Argentina

El Bolson is a town in southwestern Black River Province, in Patagonia, Argentina. Crossed by small valleys and mountain landscape, its territory is limited by the 42nd parallel, which marks the beginning of the province of Chubut. Near Lake Puelo Cholila Epuyén and other locations, call up the Andean Region.

El Bolson is located at the foot of Mount Piltriquitrón, 300 meters above sea level in a glacial valley and the river Quemquemtreu. It currently has about 20,000 inhabitants. In the 70′s was a mecca for hippies Argentines, who left the city in search of peace and a way of life. Today the whole Andean Region is known for the many craftsmen and artists that offer their products at various county fairs. The most recognized is the one that works on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays at Plaza Pagano. Since 1979, presents a few hundred posts that sell products manufactured in the region, pottery and wood crafts, farm produce, fruits, artisan beers and many others.

In the area there is also a Mapuche reservation, residents from the region, whose heirs live in harmony with the descendants of Europeans and the rest of the inhabitants.

Among the excursions that can be performed in El Bolson, one of the most recommended is a visit to Hidden Falls. Located some 10 kilometers from the town center, in Choking Mallin area, hiding in the forests of the Loma del Medio. There are trails to panoramic viewpoints and resting places.

Patagonian Stones Museum is located on the farm Iaten K’Aike on the circuit Choking Mallin, 13 miles from town. Created by Edward and Elizabeth Lucio, consists of an important private collection of minerals and rocks which integrate the different geological profiles of the Patagonian region.

Puelo Lake National Park in Chubut, is located 20 kilometers from El Bolson. Among its many attractions, a plus is the temperature of the zone (reaching 30 degrees in summer) and the temperate waters of the main lake, suitable for bathing. Pitras and myrtle trees are typical of the landscape.

At 25 km from El Bolson, the winter sports center Cerro Perito Moreno presents its ski resorts and recreation areas. The activities taking place in the center are provided by the Club Andino Piltriquitrón, founded in 1946. The summit of the mountain reaches 2216 meters in height.

Skiing and snowboarding in winter, trekking in autumn and spring, swimming in the lake during the summer … The Bag worth a visit any time of year.
