Bali is one of the most beautiful islands in the south pacific. It is part of the Indonesian islands and consists of a large inactive volcano that is covered by lush green tropical forests. The horizon has scattered islands all around to make the sea views spectacular. You can book for places with great views and immaculate service or you can choose a modest chalet on or close to the beach that is cost effective enough to allow you to do so much more while you are there on holiday. All you need to do is figure out what is there for you do and then which of those activities you would like to do.

If you need a little help planning you itinerary you can always search for a travel site that has special deals available to that place. Look under Bali holiday package deals and you’ll find a whole host of places that have put amazing travel deals together for you.

You may want to lounge around in the sand all day, while you work on your tan, or you may want to get out on the ocean and do something completely different. Either way, you will need to find the deals that offer places to stay near any one of these popular beaches. People watching are a fun thing to do while you are baking in the sun. The best beach for that would be Seminyak beach. It is often the busiest beach around the island and there are always plenty of people to stare at. Surfing is another great activity to do while you are there. If you are looking for waves then Uluwatu is the beach you need to be at there. People often go there to see the mischievous monkeys running around a temple, but it once to the best places for serious surfers to catch that perfect wave. The fact that Bali is part of a group of islands, you can visit some of the nearby beaches for some snorkelling. The breaks around Bali make the water too choppy for snorkelling so you would have to dash off to Padangbai for crystal clear waters that are still and filled with all the marine and coral life you could possibly imagine. If you prefer to stay away from all the people and just enjoy a quiet day on the beach with nothing your thoughts and the sounds of the ocean, then you should choose Balangan beach for exactly that.

There is a beach for every person that visits to Bali; you just have to know what it is you want.

Nyepi Day is the Hindu New Year in Bali and is based on the Saka Calendar, a lunar calendar originally from India. The actual day changes every year but falls sometime in March or April of the Gregorian calendar, on the day after the full moon. Nyepi Day is also known as Bali’s Day of Silence. So called because it is meant to be spent in reflective prayer and silent meditation. While visitors may not follow the same beliefs, they are required to observe the silence when visiting this mystical and spiritual island on Nyepi Day. The purpose of this is to ensure that the evil spirits roaming the lands will pass over the island when they see that no one is around hence restoring the balance of good and evil for the New Year. As a tourist in Bali, there is not much you can do except to remain in your hotel especially if you are in areas which enforce strict observance of these rules. Shops, restaurants and tourist attractions will be closed. Vehicles are not allowed to ply the streets and local officials will be going on their rounds to ensure that the silence is maintained. The airport will be also be closed for 24 hours, so don’t even try to leave!Being confined to the perimeters of your hotel, you might take the opportunity to enjoy the facilities there. Therefore choose to stay in a hotel or villa where you can attend a cooking class, enjoy a spa treatment, yoga class or laze by your own private pool. For the more amorous, your hotel room and room service would be ideal but do keep the noise level down since the silence in the air will only serve to have an amplifying effect on every whisper.

Melasti – The day before Nyepi Day

Nyepi celebrations begin the preceding day with Melasti which traditionally marks the end of the rainy season in Bali. Offerings of rice wine, food and blood are laid at crossroads where the butas and kalas loiter. These are the demons that interfere with human life causing suffering and the offerings are meant to appease them. Cock fighting is permitted as the blood spilled is necessary for purification and blood sacrifices are required from every known domestic and wild animal on Bali. In Balinese Hinduism, this is not seen as a cruel act but sacrifices such as these are treated with reverence. Mantras are recited for the sacrificed animal to request an improved status in the next life hence improving their karma.

Ogoh – Ogoh

Massive papier mache statues called Ogoh-Ogoh are made and paraded through the streets of Bali on Melasti in a deafening cacophony of cymbals, drums, gongs and even pots and pans. All in the efforts to chase away the dark forces before Nyepi. Visiting Bali in the weeks preceding Nyepi offers you amusing sights of towering devilish monsters ranging from fanged chickens to box office Superheroes. The largest Ogoh-Ogoh processions on Melasti Day are in Denpasar, but you will see equally vivid characters and large noisy processions in towns such as Ubud.Visiting Bali during this period offers the tourist colourful photo opportunities and a holiday to remember.

The terrain and scenery in Bali makes it an ideal place to take part in one of the many adventure activities this island has to offer. The compact size of the island also makes it easy to get to the various starting points without having to travel long distances. The starting point of many activities is centered on the Ubud region so this is a good place to base yourself if you plan to do more than one activity.

White Water Rafting

Take white water rafting for example. Most tourists tend to sign up for what everyone else is doing and that would be Ayung River Rafting. This is definitely a fun activity and highly recommended to enjoy the scenic route along the Ayung River which you wouldn’t otherwise get to see. On this rafting activity, you will wind through deep valleys, pass Balinese Hindu shrines, see monkeys playing, or even catch the odd farmer walking his cow to the river for some water. For the more adventurous, you might like to go on the Telaga Waja river adventure. This rafting trip takes you to the foothills of the sacred Mount Agung where you will, according to the brochure from the tour operator, navigate down the Telaga Waja river through torrents, twists and tight turns on a heart stopping adventure. River Kayaking and Canyon TubingThere is more than one way to travel down one on Bali’s famous water ways though. River kayaking is another one although this would suit someone more experienced and not ideal for total beginners. Canyon tubing however is a little more laid back and good fun for the family. This is an activity where you drift down a canyon in an inflatable tube. The location for this is north of Ubud town in Payangan, a little known area where tourists to Bali rarely tread. Over there, the Siap Stream opens up a whole new world of fun and adventure allowing visitors to float down a narrow canyon passing through thick forested areas.

Kintamani Cycling

If getting wet is not your cup of tea, then you might like to go on a Kintamani cycle tour. Several tour companies in Bali offer this activity where you are picked up from your hotel and driven up to the scenic Kintamani town located on the rim of the Mount Batur caldera. Breakfast will most likely be offered in your package at a restaurant where you’ll have ample time to take as many photos as you wish before starting. The ride is downhill of course since you can’t get much higher here, and takes you along broken tarmac roads through villages, past coffee plantations, traversing through paddy fields all the way to Ubud where a buffet lunch is usually provided. The smaller tour operators may offer you a more local experience by inviting you into their homes as part of the tour and cooking a traditional Balinese meal for lunch. They’ll take time to explain their culture, point out interesting sites and might even go on detours if they feel it is worthwhile.

Wildlife and Elephant Safari Excursions

Bali is home to a world famous Elephant Safari Park. The Elephant Park in Taro is a huge complex and the home of 27 Sumatran elephants. Here you can watch and sit atop an elephant on a safari ride through the Taro forest. There is also a restaurant and the park has a purpose built safari style lodge. It is an outing for the entire family to have fun watching the elephants paint, play and bathe, and spray water on unsuspecting tourists which can be quite amusing depending on your sense of humour and what you are wearing at the time. The latest attraction in Bali is the Bali Safari and Marine Park. This safari park is unusual in that while you normally you would expect to only see wild animals at a wildlife safari, here you will also see part of Bali’s ancient past and be able to watch cultural dances. The park is a unique blend of conservation and Balinese culture. There are tram rides through the park and fun activities such as animal rides and shows for the children. You can purchase a package which includes lunch or dinner.

Horse Riding and Camel Riding

Enjoying a breathtaking horseback ride along the coasts of Bali or camel riding along Nusa Dua beach are two other fun activities you can do to experience Bali on four legs instead on four wheels! Riding along the black volcanic sand beaches on Bali’s east coast, though villages that still preserve old traditions and along paddy fields can be something quite romantic if you are a couple especially if you choose an evening ride from one of the west coast stables. The camel ride takes you on along the pristine white sand beaches of Nusa Dua. I don’t know if you will be sitting very much after sitting on a camel’s hump on a one hour ride on the beach but it is definitely some fun judging by the smiles and laughs you see on peoples’ faces.

Paragliding & Bungee Jumping

Now these two activities aren’t for the faint hearted or those wearing pace makers but they are worth mentioning. For those of you who have not heard of the sport, paragliding is not the same as parachuting. Paragliding is a sport where the pilot is strapped in a sitting position to a harness that is attached to a fabric wing and runs forward usually down a slope to launch the paraglider. The stunning beauty of Bali’s coastlines offers the paraglider breathtaking views those at ground level won’t have the pleasure of enjoying. The AJ Hackett Bungee Tower is located on Kuta Beach in Bali, over a swimming pool located in a nightclub. It is the only place where you can bungee jump in the night with hundreds of party goers down below. We don’t know if this is something desirable for every one, but if having 2000 party goers below you unnerves you, try a jump during day time when the club is closed and you’ll be able to see the beach as well! There are other activities of course, but these listed provide a choice of excitement whether you are an individual, couple or a family with young children looking for something to do other than lounging by the pool. You will still get a sun tan, but you’ll have to put in some energy to get it and I’m sure it will be worth it for the fun you’ll have.

Most people come to Bali to experience the marvelously rich culture heritage; some come for the beaches and the waves; some come for meeting and convention; others for pure relaxation. But if you are a nature lover don’t miss Jatiluwih, is a breathtaking panorama of genuine and fertile rice fields stretch from the foothills of Batukaru volcano to the south coast.

It is located at the western district of Tabanan. This western uplands of Batukaru are famed for magnificent landscapes. The view from the mountain village, Jatiluwih, takes in the whole of South Bali. Perched on a high terraced slope, Jatiluwih deserves its name, which means “Truly Marvelous”. A wonder of the world. It’s worth a venture.

You can initiate your trip in the morning leaving the hotel at 09.00. A.M. There are many ways to see Bali and each serves its own purpose well. Motorcycles are a pleasant (but extremely risky) way to see the countryside and cooler than ride in a car. Jeep and minivans are also available for hire – with or without a driver. It is advisable to settle the price with the driver before starting on a journey.

After passing the town of Tabanan the road takes you to the north through the villages of Wanasari, Jegu, Buruan and Wangaya Gede. On the route you will be amazed by the wonderful rural ambience; farmhouses, characteristically, a little shrine to place offerings dedicated to Dewi Sri the Goddess of rice, plowing, flocks of ducks that are brought to bathe and feed all day in the flooded paddies, and harvesting, that one pictures when remembering Bali. The cascading terraces of rice fields are the most striking features of the landscape.

If you see farmers are working the rice, planting or harvesting, and if you are interested in experience it, you can stop and joint them, you will be welcomed gladly. “Alo turis, alo turis!” followed by giggles is the standard greeting from children everywhere on Bali. Older people will be more sedate but their curious eyes will follow you, as will their more modest greeting of “mau kemana” (where are you going). Traveling in Bali can be exhilarating and getting off the beaten track can take you right to the heart of Balinese life, although you don’t have to stray far to feel it.

On the route at the village of Wanasari there is a butterflies park, you can stop and watch various kinds of colorful tropical butterflies. And then nearby the temple Pura Luhur is the holy spring of Air Panas, where hot water surges from the river bank. All strange, natural phenomena are believed to be frequented by spirits. Thus, Air Panas is graced by a small temple where people make their prayers with offerings.

The journey continues up the road until it dead ends at Pura Luhur Batukaru (2,278 m / 7,474 ft). Being one of Bali’s most venerated temples, every West Balinese temple has a shrine dedicated to it; it is isolated within its solitary clearing far above the populated farmlands. The dense rainforest of this upland would invite every adventurer to explore it. Wild orchids, healing herbs, fragrant spices and exotic trees could be discovered in this mystical heart and soul of this amazing island.

Then, the last destination (the goal of the journey) is the mountain village Jatiluwih, a breathtaking panorama of genuine and the most fertile terraces rice fields on the island. It is said as the granary of the whole Bali. Perched on a high terraced slope, Jatiluwih deserves its name, which means “Truly Marvelous”. The cascading terraces of rice fields are the most striking features of the landscape. Stretch from the foothill of Batukaru volcano to the south coast. The cool western uplands, overlooking half the island, offer magnificent views.

On the route to Jatiluwih you can observe many kinds of tropical vegetation; coffee, coconuts, cacaos, cloves, jack fruits, bananas, papayas, sirsaks, an extremely juicy fruit, rambutans, mangoes, durians the smelly fruit, etc. The western upland is the most interesting area to hike. If you love hiking (don’t forget your picnic basket). A true journey to the secret soul of Bali. But if you want to have your meals at a restaurant, continue your travel to the east till you arrive at Pacung, there is a good restaurant offers delicious buffet lunch – with its wonderful sight of terraces rice field and the sacred volcano Batukaru in the distance.

Waka Land Cruise a reputable company has been organizing a sacred adventure to the secret soul of Bali. Travel by legendary luxury Land Rover, on tiny country roads and tracks, through terraced rice fields and untouched rainforest to the real heart of Bali.

So keep in mind the beautiful Bali for your holiday, because it would be worth to venture there.

Thank you readers and have a nice day.

Congratulations, you’ve packed your bags and booked your tickets. You’re just about to step out the door, wave goodbye and embark on your Bali travel. But are you ready? Before you set off on your backpacking trip, make sure you’ve completed the following tasks on this last minute checklist.

Be Prepared: The better prepared you are, the safer and more enjoyable your travel will be. If you’re travelling in an organised group, find out what arrangements have been made for you and what arrangements you need to make for yourself. Do some research on your destination and prepare the necessary documentation.
Travel Insurance: This is very important. You are strongly advised to take out comprehensive travel insurance. Is it too expensive? Can’t afford it? If you’ve said yes to these two questions, you cannot afford to travel. Accidents happen. You should not base your decision to take out insurance on the assumption that “it will not happen to me”.
Passport and Visa: Make sure these are valid and up to date.

Who are backpackers? According to the dictionary, a backpacker is a person who hikes with a backpack. To most people, backpackers are independent travellers on a tight budget. Seeing that backpackers have a tight budget to keep, here are five tips for backpacking in Bali.

Top Five Tips for Backpacking in Bali

Sleep Cheap: There is no lack of cheap accommodation in Bali. These affordable yet comfortable hostels and motels dot the coastline and can be found in the city as well. You can sleep in a private room and one with a view no less for as little as ! With such a good range of hostels, you can forget about the expensive international chain of hotels.
Eat Local: As tempting as they may be, try not to fall for “big Aussie breakfasts” in Bali. They may remind you of home but they can cost as much as your accommodation — ! Eat at local food stalls instead. It is worth taking the time to venture out to the back roads to look for local warungs. These are “semi-restaurants” that serve dishes you would find in restaurants at a fraction of the price. The names of these places usually begin with “warung”.
Take a Walk: The best way to get around Bali is on foot. If your next destination is not within walking distance, take a public bus or minivan. These options are way cheaper than the transportation offered by travel agencies. The most reliable bus company with the widest network is Perama. Another option is the ojek. This is an informal type of transport where local bikers ferry you to your destination on their motorcycles. It is a cheap, fast and fun way of getting around.
One for the Road: Travellers buy souvenirs. It is what they do. Just remember that when you are in Bali, don’t buy souvenirs in Kuta or any other tourist area. Head to the central market in Denpensar on the Pasar Sukowati instead. Here, arts and crafts, clothes, paintings and souvenirs are cheaper.
Haggle Your Heart Out: Bear in mind that whatever vendors ask for their authentic, mass-produced Balinese paraphernalia, it is the price they hope you’ll pay for it. The rule of thumb is to pay what you think it’s worth to you. Yes you should haggle but try not to go overboard. These sellers are also trying to make a living.

If you would like a vacation in the place where the modern globe has reached, but not tainted, Bali Travel Packages is one with the last possibilities open to you in the entire world! Bali does a thriving trade in tourism, but mostly the island is an untouched wilderness, in which locals still converse their own language, and if you have selected a far more secluded villa in Bali, all you’ll be able to hear right after the sun goes down could be the chirping of crickets and croaking of frogs.

These days we look at the awesome choices for non-public accommodation in Bali, quiet sights and beaches in Bali for people who would genuinely like to get away through the rest in the globe.

Private retreats in Bali

Bali is full of gorgeous, private, isolated, and tranquil lodging. Actually, right after visiting some of the locations that are regarded as ‘quiet’ and ‘out of your way’ in Bali Tourism, you might re-think your need for the corporation of random strangers! You will be looking mainly for villas in Bali, if you would like a private Bali vacation. Preceding tourists in Bali on TripAdvisor have suggested these Bali Holidays hotels for privacy and seclusion:

* The Laguna Resort and Spa in Nusa Dua* The Chedi Club at Tanah Gajah in Ubud* Spa Village Resort Tembok Bali* Komaneka at Monkey Forest in Ubud* Kupu Kupu Barong Villas & Tree Spa in Ubud

Private attractions in Bali

Between the serene accommodation in Bali, and the many personal attractions, it would be entirely possible to possess a family vacation without encountering a lot more than ten people today you’d never met before! Checking out Bali’s secluded beaches is definitely an obvious must-do; we’ll explore the best personal beach possibilities inside a moment. If you want to do far more than just laze around or enjoy the water, why not check out:

* Uluwatu Half Day tour: You’ll get to check out 100 metre rocky drops to the ocean, the Kayangan Jagat temple, and the location exactly where holy man Dang Hyang Nirartha came to his enlightenment.* Besakih Mother Temple Tour: This full day tour takes you to the Old Court of Justice at KlungKung and Goa Lawah, the Bat Holy Cave, as well as spending plenty of time exploring Pura Besakih, the largest temple with the island and consisting of five temple compounds around the main structure.* BikeBaik Tours: Bike tours are very popular across Bali – this one takes you into the countryside where you can check out how Bali’s rice farmers and rural craftsmen in fact live – fascinating!* West Bali National Park: This gorgeous national park stretches across 65,000 acres, Trekking, birdwatching and diving inside the adjacent ocean are all popular with tourists. You can see giant water monitors, kutjak deer, jungle fowl, violet crabs, macaques as well as ebony langurs.

A rental villa in Bali is a great way to spend your well earned few weeks with family members.

However, whether you go for a luxury Bali villa or a standard private Bali villa, how you spend your holiday, and what you do will almost invariably be defined by the number and ages of the children in your family.

This quick guide is intended to provide you with insights into Bali for families, with Bali travel tips and tricks.

Of course, we will start our list in priority, with the most important people, the young ones. If you wish, you may want to scroll down to the right age group for your children.

Infants

A Bali villa holiday is an ideal choice to make (over hotels and the like), if you are traveling to the island with an infant.

At a rental villa you have greater flexibility, support, and often much needed space.

Invariably, Balinese adore children, especially the younger ones. At your Bali rental villa you will more than likely get eager support to look after the little ones whilst you take a much deserved dip in the pool.

Today in Bali, most of your infant’s and your own needs will be met readily. Clean bottled water should be available at your villa, at no extra cost. Most rental villas will offer a microwave, so handy for warming up bottles. Some will even provide child friendly cutlery, so you don’t have to carry your own. Needless to say, as a favourite international tourist destination, Bali offers some very good international standard hospitals and English speaking doctors, if the need arises.

If your little one (or you for that matter), have a particular make of infant formula that you prefer, you may want to get your Bali Villa Manager to check availability for you before you arrive. Whilst there is an increasingly wider choice of baby formulas and ready-made fruit/vegetable purees available in Bali, you may not always be able to find the specific brand that you are familiar with. Of course, the same goes for disposable nappies. These are available at most supermarkets, but possibly not exactly the right brand you may be after.

The great thing about taking your own baby formula, and disposable nappies to Bali is that, having used these up in Bali, for your return trip home, you are left with much more space/weight allowance for all the shopping you will have done in Bali!

For your supplies, you may wish to try Bali Deli, Bintang Supermarket Bali. For a good selection of inflatables drop in at Matahari Bali at Bali Galleria.

Toddlers

Toddlers will love Bali and the Balinese people, since they are absolutely wonderful in interacting with the young ones.

If you want your toddler to make the most of your Bali villa pool, then you can find a variety of inflatable swimming support equipment at department stores, malls and pharmacies. Of course, it is worth noting that when buying these types of devices in Asia, one needs to pay careful attention that it meets international safety regulation. Also, as all inflatable equipment intended for children should clearly state, -these are not life saving devices and should always be used under the supervision of a competent adult swimmer-..

Also, it is worth noting that, many good villas in Bali, will actually provide some basic toys for your toddlers. Again, it is worth checking that these do meet international safety standards, as some cheap knock-offs may have small pieces or sharp edges.

If you are in need of some nap time stories, there are numerous bookshops in Bali which carry a good selection of English language children’s books. You will find that especially those printed in Indonesia are very reasonably priced.
You may want to try Peripulus Bali or Gramedia Bali, both of which seem to have suitable book selections for the young ones.

Older Children

In my experience, older children will have a ball in Bali and quite likely very happily tire themselves out between the villa swimming pool and the daily excursions.

If you have chosen one of the more spacious Bali villas, it is worth noting that the Balinese do enjoy playing football/soccer as much as the next nation. The rental villa staff will probably need only a tiny bit of encouragement to start playing ball with your young ones.

Similarly, your female villa staff will be more than happy to play-house with your little girl for many hours. What a better way for the young ones to get to learn a new culture, and may be pick up a word or two of the local language whilst having fun!

Of course, once you manage to drag yourself out of your Bali holiday villa, the options for the young ones are even more numerous.

Here is a quick list for starters:

1. Waterbom Park Bali
A genuine must during your Bali villa vacation. Suitable rides for children of all ages.

2. Horse Riding
From chaperoned rides on ponies to full galloping experience on the beach.

3. Cruising
A selection of boats, and family cruises to choose from.

3. Lovina Dolphin Watching
Bit far away from most Bali villas, but still well worth the trip.

5. Elephant Safari Park
With some great conservation and animal rescue efforts.

6. Go-Karting
For those with the need for speed.

Teenagers

I regularly get asked, if it is safe to mix Bali with teenagers. In all honesty? The answer is an absolute and one hundred percent, yes.

Bali is essentially a very safe place.

Over a million people visit Bali every year, with tens of thousands of teenagers traveling to Bali with their families, or on their own, and in majority of the cases, no one ever feels threatened or in any form of risk.

There are numerous restaurants, bars, and night clubs in Bali, and probably all are essentially safe places for anyone with some common sense.

Three simple guidelines apply in Bali, as with any other holiday destination.
- Keep away from illegal substances.
- Drink alcohol in moderation (especially in the heat, as one will already be dehydrated)
- Think twice before renting a motor-bike (or certainly, riding one under the influence of alcohol)

Once these three basics are addressed, you will find Bali to be one of the safest holiday destinations for your teenagers.

For You

Of course, last but not least, if there is any time left, you yourself will want to enjoy your Bali villa to the fullest.

The great news is, you have your own private swimming pool in your own villa. (Almost all Bali villas come with private pools.) Also, quite likely a wonderful sun-deck from which to soak up the rays.

Most Bali rental villas come equipped with a TV and Satellite/Cable connection. So if you want to catch up on the news, or sports, or just enjoy a DVD, you will not feel out of touch.

Many rental villas in Bali will also provide a library service, providing all sorts of fiction/non-fiction books for your reading pleasure whilst in Bali.

If you want to be a bit more adventurous, and can actually bring yourself to leave your newly found haven, here are a few things you may wan to try:

1. Dance Performances
Try to catch one of each of:Kecak, Legong and Fire Dances, at least.

2. Designer Shopping
In the recent years, Balinese design scene has been experiencing an amazing renaissance.

3. Diving
Different courses and organised dives exist to meet all needs.

4. Fishing
Fishing boats from Benoa Harbour or Sanur)

5. Golfing
A number of 18 hole courses are available across Bali, many with great views.

6. Helicopter Tours
Not cheap, but certainly an experience never to forget.
7. Kite Boarding
Some great wind and lift, as well as the equipment for rental are available at Nusa Dua beaches.

8. Surfing
If you are experienced, you will know where to go. If you want to learn, head for the Kuta beach where you can catch beginners’ lessons.

9. Paragliding
Throw yourself off the sheer cliff faces into the Indian Ocean!.

10. White Water Rafting
Enjoy a thrilling ride through 8 kilometers of rapids!

Once you have done it, you will agree that, Bali villas offer an amazing setting to enjoy your family holiday. The great thing is, you get to have a great Bali holiday, together, but each enjoying their own space, flexibility and freedom.

Hopefully, armed with these insights, you can now ease into your new Bali rental villa, and have a spectacular holiday in this island paradise.

Many happy returns…
