The islands of San Blas (Panama)

The archipelago formed by the islands of San Blas in the Panamanian Caribbean, also known as the region of Kuna Yala is a necklace of coral islands, which has become one of the destinations most popular eco-tourism within the region of Central and the Caribbean. The archipelago of San Blas offers two exciting without equal: the Caribbean islands of spectacular beauty and the opportunity to visit the villages of the Kuna Indians to learn about their fascinating culture and way of life.
This is a collection of some 365 islands (one for each day of the year) where you can swim and snorkel, diving, kayaking or fishing. The islands have been formed by the accumulation of coral, are covered with palm trees that are indescribably beautiful water, no wild animals and tropical climate is perfect. The impression on arrival is incredible, the feeling of having traveled back in time, the surprise of seeing how the Kuna Indians who inhabit this archipelago have remained intact for centuries, their customs, their traditions and their simple lifestyle, it is difficult to imagine.

The San Blas Indian dress blouses made daily with a colorful “molas”, the making of molas is the application of strips of cloth on top of each other, sewn with a special stitch, forming intricate and extraordinary designs. Each is unique and original designs and reflect the worldview, the nature and the spiritual life of the Kuna. Also wear a long skirt with motifs characteristic, a scarf of red and yellow ornaments on neck, arms and legs and wear gold rings in his nose. They live in straw huts and use hammocks for sleeping.

There are planes that fly to San Blas every morning from the airport, Marcos A. Gelabert in Albrook in Panama City and the best place to visit, is the island of Porvenir. Fun Facts: The San Blas Islands were selected as one of the two “best cruise ship destinations in the world” by Cruising World magazine and Le Monde Voyage. The program of the U.S. TV network CBS ‘ “Survivor” has selected a San Blas Island which is typically idyllic Sapbeinega, for a party of “reward” offered to competitors in the program. Over the years these islands have been the subject of numerous articles for National Geographic.
